Maja Lithander Smith is the founder of Alegria Design - with over 12 years of experience in retail, interior design, and management.

Maja entered the world of design when she founded Alegría Imports in 1994, an upscale home furnishings and gift store in Newport Beach, California. The store, which Maja ran for eight years, was filled with eclectic and stylish furnishings and décor, artisan pieces and textiles inspired by her travels. Loyal customers came to rely upon Maja not only for their furnishings, but for inspiration, decorating and design advice.

Maja then started Alegria Design in 2002, while living in New York City. In 2004 she moved the business to San Francisco, and currently works with clients on both coasts. With a passion for texture, color, and the mix of periods and cultures, Maja balances modern and traditional design elements to create a timeless inviting aesthetic. Always on the hunt for the unusual, she continues to discover new vendors, talented craftsmen and treasures old and new for her designs.

Maja encourages open dialogue while collaborating with clients to design comfortable and distinctive living spaces. Her goal is to make your home one you'll love living in!
